Population increased by 66 in second quarter of 2022
The population continues to rise due to a 313 Asian born increase
On July 1st, 2022, 56,661 people lived in the country. That is 66 more than on April 1st this year, and 8 more than a year ago. Almost half of the increase is attributed to people who were also born in Greenland.
19,394 people now live in Nuuk, which is 343 more than the same time, last year.

With the exception of information on few deaths, information on births and deaths are reported very quickly. Due to a lower number of deaths, the total birth surplus (births minus deaths) was 120 persons in the first 6 months of the year.

A total of 477 people immigrated and 515 people emigrated in the second quarter of the year, so the net immigration was -38 persons. There is some uncertainty associated with this figure which is primarily due to incorrect registrations and delayed reports at this level of detail. In order to explain the increase in the population with the sum of a period’s birth surplus and net immigration, a net correction of -51 persons must be added in the second quarter.
